M-D BUILDING PRODUCTS SEES INCREASED DEMAND FOR ITS WEATHERPROOFING PRODUCTS SPURRED BY THE RECENTLY PASSED AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT ACT/STIMULUS BILL

Company Gears Up to Help Weatherize America

OKLAHOMA CITY, March 23, 2009 -- M-D Building Products in Oklahoma City expects demand for its weatherization products to increase over the next year due to the stimulus bill recently signed into law by President Obama.  The bill channels over $5 billion dollars to fund weatherization programs and increases the tax credits for weatherproofing homes.

The bill includes stimulus elements for states to fund the weatherproofing of homes in low income areas. These homes are traditionally older and less energy efficient.  In addition, the bill increases the tax credits available to Americans for weatherproofing their homes from 10% to 30%.

“The weatherproofing elements of the stimulus plan underscore the essential role conservation will play in helping our country achieve the greater goal of decreasing our energy dependence on some foreign sources over the next ten years. This bill provides the incentives and financing as well as the motivation for Americans to weatherproof their homes,” commented Loren Plotkin, President and CEO of M-D Building Products.

M-D Building Products, which was founded in 1920, develops, manufactures and markets a range of residential and commercial weatherproofing products, including door and window weather-stripping, garage door weather-stripping, pipe insulation and a complete line of interior and exterior caulk marketed under both the Tower Sealants and DuPont ™  brands.

"As an industry leader in weatherproofing technology, we are pleased energy conservation is front and center in the creation of the new energy movement in our country.  Additionally, as an American company, we are pleased and ready to be part of our nation’s new energy economy, an economy built on conservation and renewable energy sources. ” Plotkin said.

He continued, “The sheer fact that weatherization is included in the stimulus bill validates the significant energy savings we can realize in both summer and winter months. Homeowners can save energy and money by taking some very simple and inexpensive steps such as properly sealing doors and windows with weather-strips, thresholds and caulk.”   According to the United States Energy Department's Weatherization Assistance Program, weatherproofing a home can reduce heating bills by 32% and overall energy bills by $358 per year at current prices.

The company has led the development of a new informational website to make it easier for consumers and organizations to learn about the best weatherproofing practices and weatherproofing products.  The new website can be accessed at www.weatherizationsource.com. “Since consumers are going to hear a lot about weatherproofing their homes in the next several months, we want to help by providing a single place on the Internet where they can quickly and easily get the information they need to weatherize their homes.  Frankly, we know weatherproofing and we want to help.” Plotkin said.

Headquartered in Oklahoma City, M-D Building Products employs over 400 people at two separate manufacturing facilities located in Oklahoma and Georgia.  M-D Building Products sells its weatherproofing products through numerous retailers and channels to consumers, contractors, wholesalers and community organizations across the nation.

M-D Building Products represents a prime example of a mid-sized manufacturing business positioned to benefit from the economic stimulus package.  “While it is premature to project how many jobs will be created, it is accurate to say we expect to see some job growth over the course of this year because of the expected increase in demand for our weatherproofing products,” Plotkin said.

M-D Building Products, a privately held business headquartered in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, has been inventing, developing, manufacturing and distributing quality products for building, decorating and weatherproofing since 1920.  http://mdteam.com/index.php
